If you do a google web search for family photographer in Canberra, it will spit out over 10 pages of listings of different family photographers. In fact, competition is so stiff that all budgets and styles are covered leaving you to think that it is a buyer’s market.
Photography is getting cheaper with the price of cameras coming down and smart phone quality getting almost as good as a camera. As a result, almost anyone with a camera can call themselves a family photographer.
I would be doing more than just a google search if I were researching for a Canberra family photographer.
So how do you make a decision?
Well I am here to help you to strike me off the list. One less photographer that you need to research.
Here are three reasons why I might not be the right family photographer for you.
I have a style, but it may not be trendy
Each photographer will have a style that they prefer. Some are more influenced by trends.
Trends are everywhere and family photography is no different.
Instagram and VSCO filters have dominated photography it is family, wedding or portrait for the last few years whether. These filters were applied to most photographs.
Now the trend has swung around and has become muted colours or matte look. If done well it can look fantastic. It just is not my style.
I will use filters or pre-sets on my photographs if it enhances them and brings out the natural colours. Not to distort the colours.
So if you are looking for filters to make your photographs look like it is made for Instagram or VSCO then I am probably not the photographer for you.
I am not about formal posing and coaching
Professional models pose and look fantastic on the runway. They move effortlessly and with absolute grace across a tarmac.
The people that I photograph are not models. They have not been taught how to pose elegantly.
If you think that I am going to put you into different poses that make you look like a model, then I am probably not the right photographer for you.
I will place you in positions that suggest intimacy or romanticism.
But I am also about having a relaxed, fun and natural experience at a park, arboretum or beside the lake which leaves people with an amazing experience. If this is what you are after then I am 100% the photographer that you are after.
I like to capture the real moment that happens amongst family members during the photoshoot.
We are all busy people and I get that the last thing that you want to do is spend hours perfecting different poses that take you back to the renaissance period. I want to capture those true moments and kids interacting with their siblings and their parents, one that is full of laughter and giggling.
My photos do not look like they are out of the latest fashion magazine
Some parents want beautiful studio images with plain backgrounds. The ones that look like that they have been taken for fashion magazine like Marie Clare. These images can look stunning.
However, these are not my preferred style.
I like to photograph kids running free, picking up rocks or rolling in the grass. It is about exploring the great outdoors and capturing those moments.
I have a collection of different locations around Canberra that make for a stunning backdrop for your family photographs.
Why I might be the photographer for you
My style is both fun and relaxed. I work hard to make the photoshoot as memorable as possible so we can capture something special.
I understand fully well that you are busy and tired. You are in charge of an important family unit.
The last thing on your mind is being posed into different complex positions. What I try to capture is the laughter, the tears and the tantrums that can make up a memorable family photoshoot.
If you are looking for someone with the right approach, the right personality and who gives you the right impression then I am the right photographer for you.
I hope that I have helped you select the perfect family photographer for you.
