There is something magically about capturing the same family over the years as their children grow up. As a Canberra family photographer it is one of the joys to see the kid’s personalities develop from being a baby to a young toddler to a teen. In this blog, I outline the benefits of booking the same photographers to capture your family images.
Benefits of booking the same photographer
You have just had your first family photoshoot and it went swimmingly well and better than you expected. This is the main benefit of booking the same photographer when you consider updating your family portraits. That is, you know what to expect from the photographer.
You know about the communication flows between you and the photographer as well as how the process goes on the day. You also know how what will happen with your images after the photoshoot.
Probably the most important benefit revolves around having an existing relationship with the photographer. You do not have nervous flurries about meeting a stranger and wondering if you will have a good working relationship and will be comfortable around them. At the end of the day, you trust them and are comfortable around them.
I find that spend the first 10 -20 minutes of any family photography session getting to know the family that I am shooting, like making sure the kids are comfortable with the camera and me (especially if they are shy and do not like the camera thrust in their face). If I am capturing the same family we can get into position and start shooting straight away. As they say, it is just like seeing old friends again.
Consistency of style
Photographers generally are a particular style, both shooting style, and editing style. It might be light and airy or dramatic. If you appreciate the style of the photographer you are pretty much guaranteed that your next photoshoot will have the consistency of results around the style and the photos.
Importantly your photos on your walls and on your furniture will sit together seamlessly rather than looking like a hotchpotch of images.
Photographers also use the same supplier for their photography products. For the families that I have been lucky to capture over the last couple of years, they have attractive albums that complement the wall art that is displayed on their walls. These albums are beautifully matched in similar colours. Again if you are appointing different photographers is you will have different album covers and styles that do not match and do not sit impeccably together on the book shelf or coffee table.
Keep the photographer happy
I am speaking for myself, but when I am asked back to capture the same family it makes me feel like I am part of that family. The trust that is placed in me makes me feel proud. Nothing gives me more joy that gently squeezing the cheeks of a new baby and them watching that baby terrorise the area as a toddler. I love capturing the new milestones of the same family whether that is the new addition to the family or a new pet.
It is truly an honour to work with the same family over the years.
